Many people view winter as a time to hibernate, tuck away from the chill and

less-than-ideal weather.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

There are many outdoor scenes to enjoy during the cold months, even more so when you find yourself in Canada.

If you need a breath of fresh air (no matter how cold it is!), check out some of these scenic Canadian regions to get your fill this winter.

Banff National Park, Alberta

Know that when you’re checking out Banff homes for sale, you’re looking at an area that will keep you busy all winter long.

Ice skating fans will want to take their blades to the ice at Vermillion Lakes, where they can also catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Lake Agnes and Yoho National Park are stunning spots to take in the snow while snow shoeing, and a guided ice walk in Grotto Canyon will take you past frozen waterways like creeks and waterfalls.

Of course, you can always hop on a ski lift at one of the three top ski resorts in the area: Lake Louise Ski Resort, Banff Sunshine Village, and Mount Norquay.

Edmonton, Alberta

Edmonton celebrates the chilly season from November until February, with its most noted attraction being the Ice Castles.

These wondrous sculptures are created by ice artists who hand-place hundreds of thousands of icicles to create castles that include adornments like slides, tunnels, and thrones.

Hit the slopes at Rabbit Hill Ski Resort or snowshoe at Elk Island National Park to marvel at the Northern Lights.

Jasper National Park, Alberta

The park is filled with stunning sites, but none so much as Mount Edith Cavell.

You can access this Canadian Rocky peak via a number of cross-country ski trails to cater to every experience level.

Once there head to the north side of the mountain, where you’ll find Angel Glacier at the foot.

This geological wonder gets its name from its appearance, which is not unlike an angel’s spread wings.

Niagara Falls, Ontario

The falls are quite the sight to see no matter the time of year, but they are extra special in the fall.

If you hit it at the right time, when the temperatures have dipped considerably, the falls seem suspended in time when the water freezes.

Churchill, Manitoba

Situated on the edge of the Hudson Bay, Churchill has its fair share of roaming polar bears that you can encounter safely via a safari.

You will also get an up close view of the Northern Lights.

Newfoundland

The Marble Mountain Ski resort offers some of the best winter sports in the eastern region.

You can also visit Gros Morne National Park, which offers a variety of ski trails.

Head over to Cape Spear to stand at the northernmost tip of the continent, where the sunrise hits first every day.

Whistler, British Columbia

Whether you like outdoor winter activities or not, Whistler has something for you.

It’s true that the area is wildly popular for its skiing, but it’s just as much fun for non-snow bunnies thanks to Whistlers Village and its many dining options, shops, and events.
