Keira Knightley Returns Graciously

Keira Knightley has been hiding. Or, so it has seemed over the past year odd, given how little we’ve seen of her. In a welcome return she was spotted this week looking classically beautiful as always – richly brown hair long and waved – at the after party of Little Dog Laughed in London.

I might add that I haven’t always been so welcoming of Keira; a phenomenon explained in an article in the Telegraph, which questions why “the mention of her name prompts women of every age to spring forward, enthralled and enraged, to postulate on the size of her pout, bosom and talent.” Apparently, we’re jealous.

“Female jealousy is a form of lust, the desire to know every inch of a beautiful woman in the same way that a man wants to through sex. But this lust is more powerful than the male kind, and is what has propelled Knightley to her position as a fashion figurehead, role model and Hollywood actress.”

“What’s surprising is that she doesn’t seem to generate a voraciousness in men. Ask them why and they will tell you that there is something too poised, too static about her face – and not enough vulgarity in that angular body.”

Though no girl likes to admit to jealously, I tend to agree with the Telegraph’s conclusion. Knightley may not be every man’s fantasy, but she’s the picture perfect screen siren that rarely makes it to light these days, and it’s hard for one to know whether we should detest or admire her. For now I’m choosing the latter.
